Last month, Burton Photography  held its 12th annual Portraits on the Parkway mini-session event.  It was a week full of high energy, smiles, old friends, new friends and lots of  beautiful portraits!  A portion of the proceeds is donated to the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation.  The Moses Cone Estate and Flat Top Manor are undergoing necessary maintenance and restoration and are in need of funds.  We love walking the miles of carriage trails and we have many favorite portrait locations on the estate and are happy to host this event each year.

Jonathan and I love to create portraits of children of ALL ages but this event is geared specifically towards school aged kids 5-18 years old.  With only 10 minutes to create an amazing portrait, we have to work very quickly with children mature enough to follow directions quickly and easily separate from their parents.  We LOVE to have more time…choice of location…perfect time of day. All of those are possible with a full length portrait session where we have the opportunity to be really thoughtful and creative.  All that said, we are always so excited to shoot almost 50 sessions over the course of several afternoons/evenings.  It is exhilarating!!!

Here are some highlights from our Portraits on the Parkway 2017:

Portraits on the Parkway is three days of whirlwind fun full of old friends, new friends, and lots and lots of beautiful smiles.  We just finished our 11th annual PPW and look forward to many to come.  PPW sessions are for kids ages 5-18 and are a lightening fast 10 minutes each.  The event is fast-paced excitement from start to finish.  Here are some highlights from our finished proofs.  We love Portraits on the Parkway!!!

Burton Photography images win awards! Every year something amazing happens in Raleigh, NC. It’s Carolina Photo Expo which is an annual event sponsored by the Professional Photographers of North Carolina. We enjoyed several jam packed days of inspiring instruction and wonderful fellowship with our pro photog friends who are like family to us. There are some really exciting things on the horizon coming to our studio as a result. Here are our 8 merited images and a list of awards that they were given at the ceremony last night:

Banner Elk Baby Portrait

September 6th, 2014

We created Ainsley’s first year portrait at her home in Matney, NC near Banner Elk. We love creating “on location” portraits because it gives us the amazing opportunity to create portraits in meaningful locations. When Ainsley is all grown up she’ll be able to see where she lived as a baby!
We had used the antique suitcase in her newborn and 6 month session so this was the grand finale! The red rocking chair belonged Ainsley’s grandmother and all the Dr. Seuss books were Blaine’s when he was a boy. We love incorporating items in the portrait that have such strong sentimental value. Ainsley is absolutely adorable.

We are excited to photograph Sarah and Shaun’s wedding this coming October. We met them at beautiful Elk River in Banner Elk, NC for their engagement session. It’s a magical place!

With Father’s Day just around the corner, I thought back to some of the “dad” portraits we had created during some of our recent family portrait sessions.

Designing graduation cards and announcements is one of my favorite “jobs”!

These kids were so fun running around and having a blast for their family portrait session in Banner Elk, NC!  We brought together some favorite images in a custom designed album.  Beautiful!
