Last month, Burton Photography  held its 12th annual Portraits on the Parkway mini-session event.  It was a week full of high energy, smiles, old friends, new friends and lots of  beautiful portraits!  A portion of the proceeds is donated to the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation.  The Moses Cone Estate and Flat Top Manor are undergoing necessary maintenance and restoration and are in need of funds.  We love walking the miles of carriage trails and we have many favorite portrait locations on the estate and are happy to host this event each year.

Jonathan and I love to create portraits of children of ALL ages but this event is geared specifically towards school aged kids 5-18 years old.  With only 10 minutes to create an amazing portrait, we have to work very quickly with children mature enough to follow directions quickly and easily separate from their parents.  We LOVE to have more time…choice of location…perfect time of day. All of those are possible with a full length portrait session where we have the opportunity to be really thoughtful and creative.  All that said, we are always so excited to shoot almost 50 sessions over the course of several afternoons/evenings.  It is exhilarating!!!

Here are some highlights from our Portraits on the Parkway 2017:

Blowing Rock, NC Portrait – Burton Photography…
We enjoyed creating this portrait of such a talented young man and loved hearing George play his guitar during the session!!! This portrait was created on the grounds of the Moses Cone Estate near Blowing Rock, NC. We are fortunate to live and work in such an amazingly beautiful corner of the world!

Burton Photography, Blowing Rock portraits… My sweet grandbaby (also known as my favorite portrait subject) came to the High Country for a visit. She had a wonderful time throwing rocks into the stream at Price Park. She could have done it over and over again – for hours! The light was beautiful underneath the trees. We had a wonderful time creating these candid portaits of her. So sweet!

Blowing Rock engagement session, Boone engagement session… We met Keith and Breanna in the park off Main Street in Blowing Rock, NC on a freezing cold day (14 degrees with the snow pouring down) for their engagement session. This is where they met while they were both in middle school! Our next stop was some gorgeous property in Boone, NC and the magnificent Shire horses that pulled the beautiful carriage by Appalachian Carriage, Inc (Aaron Norris, owner). Breanna and Keith broght the Flxible Flyer Sled and the fun continued. We’re photographing Breanna and Keith’s wedding in October and are so looking forward to capturing the romance and beauty of their special day, Boone United Methodist Church and Blowing Rock Country Club.

Blowing Rock, NC Wedding

January 25th, 2015

Caroline and Ben had THE PERFECT fall weekend for a Blowing Rock, NC wedding. The day began at Westglow Resort and Spa where Caroline got ready and Ben met her for their “first look”. We had time to create a few beautiful portraits as the rain stopped and clouds lifted before heading to Blowing Rock for the ceremony location, St. Mary’s of Hills Episcopal Church. Sam Addison of Air Haven Limousine transported the bride and groom in style driving the unforgettable Excalibur to the ceremony site as well as the reception held at Blowing Rock Country Club.. Flowers were provided by Park Place Florist of Blowing Rock. Caroline was especially happy with the flower covered chandeliers! The wedding was coordinated by Elizabeth Hemfling of Events by Elizabeth Ashley.  We loved being part of Caroline and Ben’s wedding day.
