Last month, Burton Photography  held its 12th annual Portraits on the Parkway mini-session event.  It was a week full of high energy, smiles, old friends, new friends and lots of  beautiful portraits!  A portion of the proceeds is donated to the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation.  The Moses Cone Estate and Flat Top Manor are undergoing necessary maintenance and restoration and are in need of funds.  We love walking the miles of carriage trails and we have many favorite portrait locations on the estate and are happy to host this event each year.

Jonathan and I love to create portraits of children of ALL ages but this event is geared specifically towards school aged kids 5-18 years old.  With only 10 minutes to create an amazing portrait, we have to work very quickly with children mature enough to follow directions quickly and easily separate from their parents.  We LOVE to have more time…choice of location…perfect time of day. All of those are possible with a full length portrait session where we have the opportunity to be really thoughtful and creative.  All that said, we are always so excited to shoot almost 50 sessions over the course of several afternoons/evenings.  It is exhilarating!!!

Here are some highlights from our Portraits on the Parkway 2017:

Cinemagraph Senior Portraits give us a chance to create something fun and unique for our high school seniors. Olivia is part of the graduating class of 2017 from Watauga High School. She loves to read and has especially enjoyed the adventure fantasy series – The Infernal Devices. Cinemagraphs are an innovative addition to our beautiful line of classic portraiture products. We’ve been creating fine art wall portraits for years – this is something fun for social media to go along with the heirloom pieces our clients treasure for generations.

Blowing Rock, NC Portrait – Burton Photography…
We enjoyed creating this portrait of such a talented young man and loved hearing George play his guitar during the session!!! This portrait was created on the grounds of the Moses Cone Estate near Blowing Rock, NC. We are fortunate to live and work in such an amazingly beautiful corner of the world!

Burton Photography – The Farm, Asheville, NC
We photographed a gorgeous fall wedding for a fellow professional photographer’s daughter. The only thing more stunning than the incredible scenery was the beautiful bride.
I love the moments right before the ceremony when the bride and her father are preparing to walk down the aisle together and walk into a new stage of their relationship. It is often a tender, quiet time to reflect on what they mean to one another and the significance of having a special father/daughter relationship.
We were very honored to photography this wedding for Manny Cruz of Cruz Portrait. Design. His studio is located in Bradenton, Florida.

Burton Photography, Eseeola Wedding… Sometimes, it DOES rain on a wedding day here in the High Country. But that doesn’t mean that beautiful wedding day photography isn’t possible. In fact, with inclement weather, we can often get very creative, unique images. So while I know a bride isn’t wishing for her beautiful venue to go to weather “plan B”, we can still create gorgeous images – especially if the bride and groom have a spirit of adventure like Anne and Josh! Elizabeth Hempfling of Events by Elizabeth Ashley held everything together seamlessly and the folks at Eseeola are just fantastic to work with.

Burton Photography, Blue Ridge Parway Portraits… We met Thad and Amy with their new additon, fur baby MAX, for family portraits at Doughton Park. The scenery was spectacular and provided a beautiful backdrop for creating memories that will last a lifetime. We love including pets in our family portraits becuase not only are dogs a man’s best friend, they help define a time period in our lives.

Burton Photography, Blowing Rock portraits… My sweet grandbaby (also known as my favorite portrait subject) came to the High Country for a visit. She had a wonderful time throwing rocks into the stream at Price Park. She could have done it over and over again – for hours! The light was beautiful underneath the trees. We had a wonderful time creating these candid portaits of her. So sweet!
