Alex's serious expression and his crisp military uniform are somewhat at odds with his happy, joyful personality. We took this opportunity to create his portrait shortly before the wedding ceremony.
We love the combination of the black and white post-processing along with the soft window light. Shooting into the shadow side of Alex's face creates dimensionality in the portrait that can't be created with flat lighting.
This portrait was created in the oldest part of Reynolda Chapel - built over 100 years ago by Katherine Reynolds as part of Reynolda Estate. Married to R.J. Reynolds (founder of Reynolds Tobacco), Katherine hoped that her husband would become interested in the church after she built it. It's said that he did.
Katherine's vision for the Chapel was brought to life by the immense talent of architect Charles Barton Keen and the beautiful stained glass was created in the Philadelphia studio of Nicola D'Ascenso, famous glass designer. Nicola D'Ascenso also contributed stained glass to the glorious National Cathedral in Washington, DC.
Crafting portraits in this well-known historical site in Winston-Salem provides wonderful creative opportunities.
