Children's Portrait Information and Pricing
There’s a version of your child that exists only right now. Their face at this exact age, the way everything fits together at seven, or ten, or thirteen. You don’t notice it changing until you look at a photograph from a few years back and realize it already has.
Burton Photography is a full-service portrait studio in the NC High Country. Two experienced photographers at every session, a guided process from the first conversation to the finished portraits on your wall, and nothing left to chance.
Here's how it works:
An Experience Worth Showing Up For
Every age has its own version of reluctant. A four-year-old arrives clinging to a parent. A twelve-year-old arrives skeptical and a little too cool for the whole thing. We’ve worked with both enough times to know that neither is a problem. Just a starting point.
With little ones, we come prepared with puppets, silly songs, and enough goofy tricks to get even the most camera-shy toddler genuinely laughing. With older kids and tweens, we ask about the things they actually care about, their sport, their music, the thing they could talk about for an hour, and let the conversation do the work. In both cases, we give them something to react to and the portraits take care of themselves. Parents tell us watching us work is half the fun.
We photograph throughout the NC High Country, including the Blue Ridge Parkway and locations throughout Watauga, Avery, and Ashe counties. We choose the location based on your child, not the other way around. Pets are welcome. Bring the dog.
Every Session Starts with a Conversation
We schedule a complimentary planning consultation before your session, by phone or at the studio. We want to know your child first.
We’ll talk through where you’d like to go, what to wear, whether you’re bringing siblings or keeping it to one child, and anything about your child’s personality we should know before we show up. If your child has strong opinions about things, we want to hear them. Sometimes that's where the best portraits come from.
Every session includes individual portraits of your child, sibling portraits if you have more than one, and any other combinations that matter to you.

Seeing Your Portraits for the First Time
One to two weeks after your session, you’ll come to our studio to view your proofs. We project them on a big screen so you can see them large, beautiful, and side by side.
We guide you through every decision. If there are family members who will weigh in on which portraits to order, plan to bring them. This is your one opportunity to view your proofs, and we want the right people in the room. For families who can’t make it to the studio, we can arrange a video conference viewing appointment.
A portrait session at Burton Photography begins with a $790 booking fee. That fee holds your date on our calendar and includes a $600 portrait credit that applies toward whatever you order at your viewing appointment.
Every children’s session includes:
- Complimentary planning consultation
- Unhurried portrait session with two photographers
- Viewing and ordering appointment at our studio (or via video conference)
- Delivery of your finished portraits, with in-home installation available for wall art
- Lifetime guarantee on all portrait products
- A companion digital file with every portrait you purchase, suitable for printing up to 8x10
If you’re starting from the beginning, our Baby Portrait Plan covers three milestone sessions, from the newborn days through sitting up and those first wobbly steps.
