The first year is its own season. There’s the newborn, when fingers and toes are still impossibly small and everything is brand new. Then the baby who has figured out how to sit up and grins about it. Then the toddler, careening toward everything and stopping for nothing. You blink and you’re already in the next stage.
Burton Photography created the Baby Portrait Plan for exactly this reason: three portrait sessions that follow your baby from those very first days through the first remarkable milestones. Two experienced photographers at every session, a warm studio environment for the newborn session, and the Blue Ridge Mountains as your backdrop as they grow. Here’s how it works.
The Baby Portrait Plan Includes Three Sessions
Newborn
The newborn session takes place at our studio, within the first two weeks of life. This is when babies are at their most peaceful and posable, and the studio gives us complete control over light and environment so every detail, the curve of a sleeping cheek, the fold of a tiny hand, can be captured exactly right.
Sitting Up
Between 6 and 9 months, your baby has figured out something remarkable. They can sit up on their own and look at the world with a whole new sense of wonder. This session takes place on location in the High Country, and it is one of the most fun sessions we do. Families, siblings, and pets are all welcome at this session.
Standing or Walking
By the time your baby reaches this milestone, they are a completely different person from the sleepy newborn we photographed during your first session. There is more personality, more independence, and more of who they are becoming. We intentionally space out your second and third sessions so there is noticeable growth between the two. We also leave the timeline flexible so we can wait for a beautiful day for this outdoor session. It captures who they are right now, before toddlerhood takes over completely, and it is worth every single frame.
Add a Maternity Session
Want to start even earlier? A maternity session adds a fourth chapter to your baby’s first-year story. We plan this session around 33 weeks of your pregnancy, when you are feeling great and everything is still anticipation. You can add this to the Baby Portrait Plan for just $100.
Your Investment
The Baby Portrait Plan covers all three sessions for $470. This upfront fee saves you $100 compared to booking each session individually and locks in an exclusive 20% savings on all portrait purchases across your baby’s first year.
While this plan does not include a built-in portrait credit, it gives you the flexibility to purchase only what you love most. Because we want you to have complete confidence in your investment, we review all of our custom portrait options and product pricing with you in detail during your complimentary consultation.
At each ordering appointment, you will visit our studio to see your proofs projected on a big screen, and we will guide you through every decision. All finished portraits, whether presented in a custom album, a portrait box, or as framed wall art, are printed on archival materials and backed by a lifetime guarantee. Every purchased portrait also includes a companion digital file suitable for printing up to 8x10”.

It Starts with a Conversation
Before your newborn session, we want to know everything. We will talk about your nursery colors, any special details you want to include, and how you envision the finished portraits in your home. We will plan each milestone session as your baby grows, timing every session to the right stage and the right season. With two photographers at every session, we work entirely at your baby’s pace.
One to two weeks after each session, you will visit our studio to see your proofs on a big screen and choose your favorites. Once your portraits are ready, you will return to the studio to pick up your custom albums and boxes, or sit back and relax while we deliver and install your framed wall art right in your home.
