With two photographers at every session, we guide you from the first conversation to finished portraits that feel natural, relaxed, and true to who your child is right now. The Children’s Portrait Experience
Every age has its own version of reluctant. A four-year-old arrives clinging to a parent. A twelve-year-old arrives skeptical and a little too cool for the whole thing. We’ve worked with both enough times to know that neither is a problem. Just a starting point.
With little ones, we come prepared with puppets, silly songs, and enough goofy tricks to get even the most camera-shy toddler genuinely laughing. With older kids and tweens, we ask about the things they actually care about, their sport, their music, the thing they could talk about for an hour, and let the conversation do the work. In both cases, we give them something to react to and the portraits take care of themselves. Parents tell us watching us work is half the fun.
The Blue Ridge Parkway runs through the High Country, and it’s one of our favorite places for children’s portraits. We also work throughout Watauga, Avery, and Ashe counties, from open fields and forests to tucked‑away spots only locals know, creating children’s portraits that feel as natural as the landscape. Pets are welcome! Bring the dog.
Children’s Portrait Consultation in Boone, NC
Your session begins with a complimentary consultation—by phone, video, at the studio, or in your home. We take the time to get to know your child first—what makes them light up, how they naturally interact, and what you want to remember about this stage.
We’ll talk through everything: where you’d like to go, what to wear, and whether siblings will be part of the session. Your input matters—we want to hear what you love about your child and what you hope these portraits will reflect. That’s usually where the best ideas begin.
Every session includes individual portraits of your child, sibling portraits if you have more than one, and any combinations that matter most to you.

Viewing Your Children’s Portraits for the First Time
About a week or two after your session, we’ll schedule your viewing appointment. Local clients join us at the studio, where we project your portraits large, beautiful, and side by side. If you’re traveling, we’ll meet by video for a guided viewing experience.
We’ll help you narrow down your favorites so nothing feels overwhelming. Since this is your opportunity to view all of your portraits, we ask that everyone involved in the decision-making process plans to attend.

A portrait session at Burton Photography begins with a $790 booking fee. That fee secures your date and includes a $600 portrait credit that applies toward whatever you choose at your viewing appointment.

- Complimentary planning consultation

- Viewing and ordering appointment at our studio (or via video conference)
- Delivery of your finished portraits, with in-home installation available for wall art
